PAS logo an option for Perikatan in Melaka election if RoS suspension remains, says Takiyuddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) may contest the Melaka state election under the PAS logo if the coalition’s suspension by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) remains in force, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said today.

According to Harian Metro, Takiyuddin said the choice of logo was not a major issue for the coalition, which would decide its approach according to the circumstances ahead of the election.

He said PAS had no difficulty contesting under its own logo, while Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia could also contest using its own symbol.

Takiyuddin added that parties in an electoral alliance did not necessarily have to use their respective logos, pointing to the 2018 general election, when DAP, PKR and Bersatu candidates contested under the PKR symbol.

“So, it is not necessary for those parties [within PN] to use their own logos. They can use the logo of any party that shows they are united together.

“So what is wrong if one of the parties in the coalition — PAS, for example — or the other parties also use that logo? There is nothing unlawful about it.

“This is among the options we have if PN remains suspended,” he was quoted as saying at the Bunut Payong Cakna Rakyat Carnival in Kota Bharu.

The RoS ordered PN to suspend all activities with effect from September 23 under subsection 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966. The notice was issued following a complaint lodged with the department by Bersatu.

PN has also been issued a notice requiring it to explain why its registration should not be cancelled.

The Melaka state assembly was dissolved with effect from September 23, paving the way for the state election.

At the previous state election on November 20, 2021, Barisan Nasional won 21 of the 28 seats to form the government, while Pakatan Harapan secured five and PN two.
