The Transformers series has some explosive films. Part of that is due to Michael Bay's obsession with them and his ability to make a loud and action-packed movie like few others, but it's also due to just how powerful the Cybertronians are. Because if someone's going to make a franchise about robots fighting each other, they have to be pretty darn powerful.
The Transformers franchise has characters of all shapes, sizes, and power levels, spanning from those with the power to transform into dinosaurs all the way to literal planet-consuming gods. With each Transformer having unique personalities and abilities, it can be difficult to figure out who is the strongest besides the one who is a god. Whether they align with the Autobots or Decepticons or go their own way, the power scaling of the Transformers universe is filled with some extremely powerful characters.
25 Jetfire (Mark Ryan)
First Appearance: 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' (2009)
When the group meets Jetfire (Mark Ryan) for the first time in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, he is worn down and tired—time clearly was not kind to him. However, this doesn't count him out as a very strong warrior. In his prime, Jetfire was quite incredible and a great addition to the Decepticon army.
This is best shown visually with the massive upgrade in power that Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) receives when he takes on Jetfire's parts in the third act of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. His wings and weaponry gave the Autobot leader the ability to take down The Fallen (Tony Todd) in mere moments.
24 Shatter (Angela Bassett)
First Appearance: 'Bumblebee' (2018)
One of the best Transformers movies of all time is none other than the likes of Bumblebee, thanks to how grounded, heartfelt, and well-written it is. Despite this, though, it's got some gnarly villains in it that prove to be a formidable force for Bumblebee (Dylan O'Brien) within the movie. While these villains aren't the strongest Decepticons around, they're tough enough to be the villains of an entire movie. Of the two, Shatter (Angela Bassett) is the mastermind.
Between Shatter and Dropkick (Justin Theroux), the former is more of the mind behind the operation they're hatching to draw Bumblebee out to, well, kill him. This isn't to say she isn't strong, though. She can most certainly still hold her own and deliver a beatdown if she so pleases. That, combined with her brains, makes her a great leader among the duo.
23 Dropkick (Justin Theroux)
First Appearance: 'Bumblebee' (2018)
On the other half of the Bumblebee pair lies Dropkick. While not the smartest of them, he's most certainly the muscle. He's got brute strength on his side, a 14-foot stature, is a "triple-change" (meaning he can go through three forms—robot, a muscle car, and a helicopter) Cybertronian, and is ruthless all-around.
He's equipped with weapons like a plethora of guns, a blade, and even a de-atomizer. Bumblebee never even overpowered Dropkick in the final battle when he beat him. The small bug Transformer had to outthink him in order to finally take him down in those last dozen or so minutes of Bumblebee.
22 Scorponok
First Appearance: 'Transformers' (2007)
One of the first major Transformers to make an appearance in the live-action franchise's first outing is none other than Scorponok. Boy, oh boy, did he make an impression, too. Attacking a group of soldiers in Qatar. He's also the first appearance of a Cybertronian who could transform into a beast rather than a vehicle of some sort. He makes his big debut as a scorpion, and the power that he displays is unlike any Transformer seen in the franchise thus far.
He attacks the soldiers by burrowing through the sand and popping in and out to attack them from underneath and with his deadly tail. He stabs soldiers through the chest and massacres the army not once, but twice. His power is intense, and his burrowing makes him a difficult beast to hit.
21 Sideswipe (André Sogliuzzo & James Remar)
First Appearance: 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' (2009)
When it comes to the Transformers universe, sometimes being fast can be more powerful than packing a tough punch. Sideswipe (André Sogliuzzo & James Remar) is the perfect example of this, with his wheels for feet making him one of the fastest Autobots in the franchise and, therefore, pretty hard to touch.\
His speed combined with his weaponry allows him to be one of the trickiest and deadliest Autobots. Being able to slide in, attack, and be gone the next second, or fire long-range weapons in motion, makes it harder to hit him and makes him an incredibly difficult foe for any Decepticon in his way.
20 Ironhide (Jess Harnell)
First Appearance: 'Transformers' (2007)
The original weapons specialist, Ironhide (Jess Harnell), knew how to pack a punch both physically and, especially, in his weaponry. The caliber he held in his arsenal was unlike any other Autobot or Decepticon's around at the time. For those first three Transformers films, he was the absolute tank of the protagonist team.
The only way he was taken down was by a rust gun, which his tough exterior could not withstand—no Cybertronian could, in fact. If there's a long-range weapon like missiles, machine guns, or energy cannons, Ironhide has it and is an expert with it.
19 Airazor (Michelle Yeoh)
First Appearance: 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' (2023)
There aren't many air-based Autobots or Decepticons in the Transformers franchise. Starscream (Charlie Adler) is the most notable, and Optimus becomes one when he gets his upgrade from Jetfire, but outside of that, there aren't many memorable ones. This is besides the iconic Airazor (Michelle Yeoh), of course.
The Maximals are wildly (pun intended) powerful, and Airazor is a great example of how their power is diverse and brings variety to the series. The Maximals' ability to transform into animals rather than vehicles means they have some unique powers, and Airazor has the ability to turn into Peregrine Falcon. This means she's not only one of the fastest Cybertronians on the planet, but she can take to the skies, as well—something that most characters in the series can't do. When she was corrupted and possessed in the latter half of the movie, she was quite the tough fight.
18 Mirage (Pete Davidson)
First Appearance: 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' (2023)
Despite being one of the newer additions to the series, Mirage (Pete Davidson) has some powers that put him far above the average Autobot or Decepticon. On the outside, he may look basic, but his ability to create holographic duplicates of himself makes him a foe to be reckoned with.
This power is one that absolutely no other Cybertronian has been shown to have, making Mirage one of a kind. This makes his movements incredibly hard to predict and makes him super hard to pin down in a fight. Being borderline untouchable (if his powers are used right) is something that is extremely valuable and powerful.
17 Cheetor (Tongayi Chirisa)
First Appearance: 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' (2023)
Alongside the rest of his Maximal family, Cheetor (Tongayi Chirisa) came to Earth to flee the likes of Unicron (Colman Domingo) and hide in the dense jungles of Peru. With the ability to turn into a cheetah, this Maximal reflects the animal he turns into by being the fastest among all the other Maximals in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Voiced by the wonderful Tongayi Chirisa, Cheetor is a mighty beast and not to be trifled with.
But his cheetah form isn't the only thing powerful about him. When he's in his standard Transformer form, he's the most agile and nimble of the entire cast. Equipped with a deadly two-sided spear, he can not only hit hard and deadly, but is very difficult to hit. Flipping around the battlefield keeps Cheetor on the move and safe from most attacks. These factors combined make Cheetor a fatal opponent on the battlefield.
16 Soundwave (Frank Welker & Jon Bailey)
First Appearance: 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' (2009)
Physical strength isn't everything, and of the Decepticons, Soundwave (Frank Welker) is the perfect example of this fact. Being the enemy Cybertronians' communications officer, Soundwave can completely take over electronic communications all over the entire planet. He's first seen in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as a satellite in space, tracking people on their phones and hacking into classified N.E.S.T. communications.
He can also be seen ejecting his minions, of which he has about seven (that have been seen), who commonly do his bidding for him. But this doesn't mean he doesn't get his own hands dirty from time to time. In Transformers: Dark of the Moon, he's a huge part of the Battle of Chicago, almost killing Bumblebee (Mark Ryan) in the conflict. While he may be able to hold his own, his control over general communication is where his true power shines through.
