Florence Pugh's "unmissable" British period drama is now streaming for free

Florence Pugh's period drama Lady Macbeth has just been added to Tubi to stream for free. The 2016 film was only Pugh's second big screen role, following her debut in The Falling.
Rather than being an adaptation or a retelling of Shakespeare's famous play, the film is based on Nikolai Leskov's 1865 novel Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District.
Lady Macbeth follows Katherine Lester, a woman trapped in a loveless marriage whose controlling in-laws are ruining her life. After taking a lover, Katherine decides to get revenge on her family, reminiscent of Lady Macbeth.

The film was directed by William Oldroyd, who most recently worked on Netflix series His & Hers, from a script by Alice Birch,
Lady Macbeth was a big hit with critics upon its release and the film currently holds an 89% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Den of Geek wrote in their review: "Whilst Lady Macbeth is a minimalist piece in many aspects (from its styling to the fleeting non-diegetic sound score), the impact this mesmeric revenge drama has far outclasses most period dramas due to its sheer originality and abrasiveness.
"Broodily snaking its way round your thoughts for countless days after, Lady Macbeth is simply unmissable."

The Detroit News was full of praise for Pugh calling her a "wrecking crew" and saying that she communicates "pure malevolence with a simple glance, but always keeping her composure," adding: "She may be evil, but she's first and foremost a lady."
The Seattle Times noted that Pugh, "a young newcomer with just a tiny handful of film credits, gives a performance of rare ferocity."
While the Chicago Tribune wrote: "Throughout Lady Macbeth we see Pugh's eyes, full of possibility and optimism at the outset, gradually darken. Even her breathing changes. It's a wonderful performance in a very fine film."
Lady Macbeth is streaming now on Tubi.
