Ogunbote rues Plateau Utd’s dropped points against Wolves

Plateau United coach Gbenga Ogunbote

Plateau United coach Gbenga Ogunbote has blamed anxiety for his side’s 1-1 home draw against Warri Wolves in Sunday’s NPFL Matchday 11 fixture, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

“There was a lot of anxiety from my boys. They were just trying everything hurriedly to make sure we scored. Unfortunately, we were getting everything wrong. It’s another disappointing home draw for us,” Ogunbote said during his post-match media interaction.

Warri Wolves took the lead in the 24th minute through Emmanuel Aribogha at the New Jos Stadium, but substitute Samuel Ayanrinde restored parity for the hosts on the hour mark. Plateau United were unable to find a winning goal as the visitors held on for a point.

The result extended Plateau United’s difficult run, having collected just one point from their previous two matches. They suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Sporting Lagos before surrendering a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw away to Katsina United.

The Peace Boys had gone into Sunday’s encounter seeking their first home victory in two attempts and their second win in five league matches, but were again unable to turn their opportunities into maximum points.

The draw leaves Ogunbote’s side sixth on the NPFL table with 16 points from 11 matches.

Plateau United will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Nasarawa United in Lafia as they seek to return to winning ways.
