New rules for government suppliers as KRA integrates eTIMS with Ifmis
The taxman has rolled out the integration of its Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) with the Integrated Financial Management Information System (Ifmis), a move set to change how suppliers doing business with government entities process payments.
In a public notice issued on Sunday, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) said the integration will promote greater transparency and accountability in government transactions, as well as enhance tax compliance through automated validation of tax invoices.
With the integration in effect, KRA has issued new requirements for all suppliers engaging in business with government entities.
Suppliers must generate valid eTIMS invoices for all supplies before submitting them for payment processing through Ifmis. The details of any invoice submitted to a government entity must also correspond precisely with the invoice generated and recorded in eTIMS, the authority said.
KRA further urged suppliers to regularly verify their tax compliance status and ensure their tax records and information remain accurate and up to date, warning that inconsistencies could affect payment processing.
Suppliers requiring help with eTIMS onboarding, invoice generation or related matters have been advised to contact KRA through its available support channels.
The authority said it would continue supporting suppliers and other stakeholders through the transition, including through sensitisation programmes and technical support.
"KRA and the National Treasury remain committed to supporting all stakeholders throughout the implementation and transition period. Sensitisation programmes, technical support, and relevant guidance will continue to be provided to facilitate the smooth and successful adoption of the integrated eTIMS-IFMIS solution," the notice read.
