Mosiria Accuses Sakaja of Plotting to Frame and Jail Him After Sacking
Former Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has accused Governor Johnson Sakaja of allegedly preparing a court case intended to frame and imprison him following his dismissal.
Mosiria made the claims on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in a statement issued shortly after his sacking was confirmed. However, he did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegation.
“Lastly I have information that you are preparing a court case to fix and jail me. I hope Nairobi people know who belongs to jail and who should serve them,” Mosiria said, directly addressing Sakaja.
The former county official also accused the governor of having effectively sidelined him long before the formal dismissal, citing disagreements over his responsibilities, budget allocations and procurement arrangements.
Mosiria revisits fallout with Sakaja
Mosiria claimed his troubles with Sakaja began on December 28, 2023, when the governor allegedly issued a memo stripping him of his mandate as an accounting officer and transferring the responsibilities to junior officers.
He further alleged that the budget under his docket was subsequently reduced from KSh1.2 billion to KSh100 million, leaving him with inadequate resources to execute his duties.
The former chief officer linked the dispute to his alleged refusal to participate in what he described as direct procurement arrangements that favoured contractors and individuals close to the governor.
Mosiria also recalled a WhatsApp conference call during which he claimed Sakaja confronted him in the presence of the governor’s Chief of Staff, Osman Khalifa.
“Thank you, my boss, for making my sacking official. However, what you forgot to tell Nairobi residents and Kenyans is that you effectively dismissed me on 28th December 2023, when you took away my constitutionally assigned mandate as an Accounting Officer,” he said.
Mosiria further linked his latest allegations to a previous contempt of court case which he claimed was orchestrated to force him out of office.
According to him, the case nearly resulted in a six-month jail term. He said he was later transferred to the customer service docket after raising concerns about the matter.
The allegations had not been independently substantiated in the information provided.
From environment enforcement to county politics
Mosiria rose to prominence while serving as Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment, where he became known for enforcement operations targeting illegal dumpsites and businesses accused of violating noise and environmental regulations.
In a reshuffle announced on November 18, Sakaja transferred him from the Environment docket to Citizen Engagement and Customer Service.
His dismissal comes amid growing political tensions between the two officials, with Mosiria increasingly criticising the governor’s administration.
On October 5, Mosiria declared that he was considering a bid for the Nairobi governorship, saying he would enter the race if former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko persuaded him to do so.
He has also accused Sakaja of mismanaging the county, arguing that former governors Sonko and Evans Kidero performed better in office.
Sakaja faces growing competition ahead of 2027
Sakaja was elected Nairobi governor in 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket and is seeking a second term in the 2027 General Election.
His potential challengers include Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, as political figures position themselves for the contest.
