Cavan Sullivan became the youngest player to score for the US men’s national team in its 3-0 win over Mexico in Glendale on Saturday, October 3.

The 17-year-old, who plays for Philadelphia Union and is expected to move to Manchester City, found the net midway through the second half to put USA 2-0 up.

At 17 years and five days, Sullivan broke Mathis Albert’s five-day-old record as the youngest US goalscorer.

USA clincially capitalised on two mistakes from Mexico goalkeeper Raul Rangel to ascend into a two-goal lead. Julian Hall added his third goal in as many games to give Mauricio Pochettino’s side the lead in the first half, before Sullivan added the second.

Things got worse for Mexico when Luis Chavez was shown a red card for shoving a hand into the face of Sebastian Berhalter in the 68th minute.

Malik Tilman sealed the result with a third when he latched onto a backpass and found the top corner for 3-0.

The result puts further pressure of Mexio manager Rafael Marquez, who is still without a win since taking over after the FIFA World Cup 2026.
