Viviano on Milan forward Ramos: ‘At Juventus he’d have 5 goals by now’

Emiliano Viviano believes Goncalo Ramos is being underserved by the way Milan play, and that the same striker in a different side would already have a return to match his reputation.
Speaking to Cronache di Spogliatoio, with quotes via MilanNews24, the former goalkeeper put it bluntly. “The other day I made this example privately, but I’m firmly convinced of it: if Goncalo Ramos had played these six games with Juventus, he’d have five league goals. I’m telling you honestly.”
Viviano: ‘Milan need to keep the ball better’
His argument is about territory rather than the player. Ramos has one Serie A goal since arriving, and spends much of his time dropping deep to link play rather than occupying the box.
“You need to improve the possession. If you manage to hold the ball well and push the centre of gravity over there, Goncalo Ramos has less need to come and help you out here and works more in the area where, in my opinion, he’s strong.”
He is not dismissive of the rest of Ramos’ game. “Obviously Kolo Muani does a different job, but Goncalo Ramos is strong in the box, he showed it with Portugal, and at the World Cup too. He does a lot of work, he helps out, and that work lets you have an important first press and squeeze up.”
The wider point is about Ruben Amorim’s Milan. “The truth is I expect a Milan, and it still hasn’t done this, that’s dominant on the other side too. That passes the ball a bit more, whereas now it plays a lot on transition and vertically.”
