Renee Spearman earns her second No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart as “You Chose Me,” featuring Montell Jordan and Kim Burrell, rises three spots on the ranking dated Nov. 7. The song is Jordan’s first No. 1 on the chart and Burrell’s third.

Jordan is widely known for his 1995 smash “This Is How We Do It,” which spent seven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. The song earned a Grammy nomination for best male R&B vocal performance and two MTV Video Music Awards nods. He followed with seven more top 40 hits, including two top 10s: “Let’s Ride,” featuring Master P and Silkk the Shocker (No. 2 in 1998), and “Get It On Tonite” (No. 4, 2000).

Jordan shifted his focus from secular music to ministry in 2010, becoming a worship leader at Victory World Church in Norcross, Ga. He has since recorded faith-based music, bringing his R&B background to gospel.

Spearman and Jordan cowrote “You Chose Me,” which reflects on their faith and its role in their musical careers. Jason White, known for his work with Ye’s (formerly Kanye West) Sunday Service Choir, and Asaph Ward coproduced.

Spearman recruited Jordan and Burrell for the collaboration, which reunites her and Burrell. The pair previously topped Gospel Airplay in 2023-24 with “Tap Into It (The Source),” the first No. 1 on the chart for both artists. Spearman’s earlier hits at the format include “I Got God,” which reached No. 7 in March 2022, and “I Love Him,” featuring Hezekiah Walker and Dr. Holly Carter, a No. 6 hit in February 2020.
