Police arrest suspected motorcycle, drug dealer in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a suspected motorcycle and drug dealer and recovered a locally made gun, substances suspected to be cannabis and three motorcycles.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, in a statement she signed on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, on Thursday, identified the suspect as Ebuka Nwakerindu, 20, of Umuokoromiri Village, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.

According to the statement, the exhibits recovered include one locally made single-barrel long gun, one 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa and three motorcycles.

The statement said the arrest was carried out in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo, and in furtherance of the Inspector-General of Police’s vision of intelligence-led policing.

It said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on actionable intelligence, carried out a coordinated raid on a criminal hideout at Onitsha Ngwa, Obingwa LGA, on September 23, 2026.

The statement added, “Upon sighting the police, the suspect and his accomplices fled the scene. However, one locally made single-barrel long gun and a 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa were recovered.

“Subsequently, today, 24/09/ 2026, operatives apprehended the above-named suspect, who specialises in the theft and resale of motorcycles. Three stolen motorcycles were recovered from him”.

The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the other fleeing suspects, while the recovered exhibits remained in police custody.

It added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s commitment to “intelligence-driven operations, proactive crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property across the State”.
