Broadway’s ‘Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York)’ Sets Closing Date

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), the modest, two-person musical that charmed critics last season and scored eight Tony Award nominations, will play its final performance on Sunday, November 29.

At the time of its closing, Two Strangers will have played 21 previews and 428 performances at the Longacre Theatre. The First National Tour of the show will launch in Providence, RI., with an expected start date in fall of 2027.

Written and composed by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, and directed and choreographed by Tim Jackson, Two Strangers stars Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts (both Tony noninated) as two young strangers who meet when he is visiting New York (from England) for the wedding of a father he never met. Pitts plays the bride’s sister, and in opposites attract style the two bond, sometimes reluctantly, as they carry out the wedding task described in the title.

While the musical received favorable reviews and solid word of mouth, it did not become a major hit at the box office. In recent weeks attendance at the show was typically on the lower end of the Broadway grosses roster: Last week, attendance was at 70% of capacity at the Longacre, with a middling gross of $519,236.

The Broadway production, which opened November 20, 2025, followed engagements in Boston and London’s West End.
