Sierra Leone beat Ghana in NCF Quadrangular T20 tourney

Sierra Leone bounced back from their opening-day defeat to Nigeria A with a six-wicket victory over Ghana in the Nigeria Cricket Federation Quadrangular T20 Series at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos on Tuesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Leone Stars restricted Ghana to 85/8 in their 20 overs before chasing down the target with 11 balls to spare, finishing on 86/4 in 18.1 overs.

Sierra Leone’s victory came a day after they were beaten by Nigeria A by 33 runs, while Ghana also suffered an eight-wicket defeat to the senior Nigeria side in their opening game.

Abubakar Kamara led Sierra Leone’s chase with 27 off 35 balls before he was caught, while Yegbeh Jalloh added 19 off 37 deliveries.

Captain Lansana Lamin then provided the late impetus with an unbeaten 14 off just five balls, hitting a four and a six, while Eric Turay remained unbeaten on 11.

Ghana’s Vincent Ateak was their most economical bowler, returning figures of 2-0-8-0 from his four overs, while Oscar Harvey claimed two wickets for 16 runs.

Earlier, Ghana struggled to build momentum after electing to bat, with their innings ending on 85/8.

Richmond Baaleri took one wicket for 11 runs in 1.1 overs, while Ghana’s batting was restricted throughout by Sierra Leone’s attack.

Kamara was named Player of the Match for his contribution to Sierra Leone’s successful chase.

The result gives Sierra Leone two points from two matches, while Ghana remain without a point after two defeats in the four-team competition.

The quadrangular series, which runs until September 27, features Nigeria, Nigeria A, Ghana and Sierra Leone, with the teams meeting twice in a round-robin format.
