Two arrested over boxer Zolani Tete murder

Police have arrested two people of interest over the murder of well-known boxer Zolani Tete.

The 38-year-old Zolani Tete, popularly known as “Last Born”, was ambushed and shot dead at about 6:30pm on Friday in NU 17, Mdantsane.

Zolani Tete murder suspects arrested in Ku Gompo

Police arrested two men, aged 30 and 22, in Ku Gompo on Saturday during an intelligence-driven operation involving several law enforcement units.

Police are questioning the suspects in connection with Tete’s murder and the attempted murder of the 27-year-old woman who was travelling with him and suffered gunshot wounds during the attack.

Investigators continue to pursue several leads in the case.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said it could not release further details about the motive or circumstances surrounding the arrests while the investigation remains ongoing.

Investigators are following several leads, with police indicating that more arrests could follow.

SAPS has also warned the public and media against spreading speculation or unverified information, saying this could compromise the investigation and future court proceedings.

Police have commended the team involved in the arrests for acting swiftly.
