Arsenal Football Newsletter

The Gunners’ boss was handed two new injuries after the final whistle of Saturday’s defeat of Leeds as both Martin Zubimendi and Piero Hincapie picked up problems.

Both players prognoses have now been revealed ahead of what is sure to be a testing run of matches, with a trip to Bayern Munich on the cards next week.

Cristhian Mosquera has returned in a definite boost for the Gunners, but a number of his team-mates remain on the treatment table.

With that said, here is all the latest Arsenal injury news...

Piero Hincapie

Piero Hincapie was one of two victims of Arsenal’s post-match warm-down following Saturday’s defeat of Leeds.

He was carried off the pitch by Illan Meslier, and it was later confirmed he had suffered an ankle injury, with Arteta promptly ruling him out of Tuesday’s meeting with Lille.

Speaking after that match, however, Arteta gave some more detail on his condition. Hincapie was sent for scans on Monday which did not turn up positive results.

"Piero is improving but it looks more significant," Arteta said.

"I think it will be a matter of weeks but we don't know exactly how many."

Potential return date: November 1 vs Liverpool (A)

Martin Zubimendi

Martin Zubimendi joined Hincapie is suffering an injury after facing Leeds.

Mikel Arteta has revealed the Spaniard’s ankle injury looks less serious than Hincapie, amid reports he could be back as early as this weekend against Nottingham Forest.

He was subsequently absent for the visit of Lille, after which Arteta confirmed his countryman is only facing a matter of days on the sidelines.

"Zubi I expect, yeah [only days]," Arteta said. "We have to see the moment he goes on that pitch, how he deals with the pain and some small feelings that he will have."

It seems there is a chance he could be involved for the weekend trip to Nottingham.

Potential return date: October 18 vs Nottingham Forest (A)

Christos Tzolis

Christos Tzolis suffered a hamstring injury in Greece’s penultimate Nations League fixture, a 2-2 draw at home against the Netherlands.

The winger was replaced just 18 minutes into the match and was said to have undergone a scan before returning to Arsenal.

Amid reports that Tzolis could be out for up to three weeks, Arteta delivered an update in the pre-Leeds press conference.

“Tzolis has a muscle injury, and he's going to be out for a few weeks,” the Arsenal manager said. “He's not available yet.”

If the three-week timeframe is accurate, Tzolis will be back in contention for the visit of Everton to north London on October 24, which is followed by a trip to Fleetwood in the Carabao Cup last 16 and showdown with Liverpool at Anfield.

Potential return date: October 24, vs Everton (H)

William Saliba

William Saliba has yet to play for Arsenal this season due to a long-term back injury that he exacerbated while on duty for France at the World Cup finals this summer.

Though he avoided surgery, he was expected to be sidelined for a period of months in a huge blow to Arteta.

He is said to be progressing well in his recovery and back running on grass, suggesting he could be back in contention sooner than expected.
