All My Children's Alan Dysert Dead at 75 After Cancer Battle

All My Children fans are mourning the loss of one of its stars.
Alan Dysert, who starred as Sean Cudahy on the beloved soap opera from 1980 to 1990, died Oct. 23, his wife Michelle Dysert confirmed in a social media statement. He was 75.
“While I am struggling to imagine life without him, I am forever grateful to have experienced what so many people spend their lives searching for—the love of a lifetime,” Michelle wrote in a post on Facebook Oct. 25. “Alan lived an extraordinary life. From humble beginnings as a farm boy in Illinois, he went on to become an actor, musician, writer, filmmaker, producer and beloved acting teacher.”
Indeed, while Alan starred not only in 79 episodes of All My Children, but also had small roles in Two Weeks (2006) and The Grift (2008), Michelle emphasized that his greatest role was as a teacher, referring to her late husband as a “life changer.”
“Alan had an incredible gift for storytelling, a wonderful sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, and a personality that could fill any room,” Michelle continued. “His life was filled with remarkable experiences, fascinating people, and enough stories for several lifetimes. And he loved sharing them!”
And although Alan shared he had been diagnosed with an incurable and aggressive form of cancer in his 2023 autobiography Lights, Camera, Cancer!, he fought it for over 12 years and noted he had undergone several procedures throughout his battle.
In her statement, Michelle expressed her late husband’s effort to live life to the fullest—right up until the end.
“He continued to approach life with determination, humor, and gratitude,” she continued. “He fought hard for the life he loved, and I was honored to stand beside him through it all.”

In addition to his career and romance with Michelle, Alan earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and welcomed two sons, Cody and Cooper, from a previous relationship.
“I hope you'll remember Alan with a smile,” Michelle wrote to Alan’s sons and other loved ones. “Share a favorite story and celebrate the joy he brought into this world.”
For her part, Michelle expressed to Alan, “Thank you for loving me, for making me laugh, for the adventures, the memories, and the beautiful life we built together.”
