Bhullar wins in play-off, beats Sachin Baisoya
As champions do, Gaganjeet Bhullar delivered when it mattered most, edging out Sachin Baisoya in a play-off to win the Maritime Invitational golf tournament, presented by Green Fuels Vizag Dolphins, as part of the Indian Golf Premier League Tour (IGPL), at the East Point Golf Course here on Thursday.
Despite missing a series of birdie putts, Bhullar shot a one-under in the final round to finish at 10-under.
Baisoya, who was six shots behind at the start of the final round, fired a fine seven-under to race to 10-under and force a play-off. The final round was reduced to 16 holes.
In the play-off, Baisoya’s chip from just off the green went past the flag. Bhullar, however, chipped in from 40 feet to claim his third IGPL title of the year and sixth overall.
Baisoya finished second while M. Dharma shot a six-under, the second-best card of the day after Baisoya’s seven-under, to finish sole third at six-under.
Bhullar’s triumph also carried his team Chennai Lions to the top of the team standings with a total of 14-under.
Speaking to The Hindu after the victory, Bhullar, representing Chennai Lions, sounded confident going into the remaining four legs.
“Definitely feels good. As I said, I’ve been hitting the ball really well the whole season. I’ve been working on a few of my technical things and it has paid off. As a team, too, we are doing well,” he said.
