Luxury resorts on one of the world's most beautiful bays abandoned for 5 years

The Lang Co Resort and Six Miles Coast Resort on Lang Co Bay, one of the world's most beautiful bays in central Vietnam, have stood abandoned since 2021.

The 6-hectare Lang Co Resort, with around 40 rooms, sits at the center of Lang Co Bay on Lac Long Quan Street in Chan May-Lang Co Commune. It began as the Lang Co Trade Union Hotel and was upgraded into a high-end resort in 2011 by Phong Huy Real Estate Co. Ltd. of Ho Chi Minh City.

The resort shut down in 2021 after the business stopped turning a profit and the owner's assets were frozen. Years of abandonment have left most of the tile roofing punctured, and rainwater has damaged the structural components inside.

Doors have been stripped from the guest rooms. Before it closed, the resort drew praise from visitors for its greenery, its pool and its prime position near the bay. Guests could walk about 100 m to Lap An Lagoon for seafood and views.

A three-story building that once housed the restaurant is now derelict, its domed roof pocked with holes and vegetation growing thick around it. Doors and interior fittings have been removed.

Wooden components and roof frames throughout the buildings are badly damaged and cannot be reused.

A conical viewing hut is no longer intact, with weeds overtaking the path up to it.

About 2 km from Lang Co Resort, the Six Miles Coast Resort, a complex of commercial space, villas and holiday apartments developed by Minh Vien International JSC, has also sat abandoned for years. The developer committed more than $2 billion across six phases and a mix of property types. Phase one, carrying $368 million in investment on a site of more than 1,200 sq.m, was to deliver 242 luxury sea-facing villas.

Six Miles Coast Resort operated briefly after opening in 2019 before halting because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and has been abandoned since. According to the Hue City Economic and Industrial Zone Management Board, two resort projects in Chan May-Lang Co Commune have suspended operations after failing to trade profitably: Xanh Lang Co Resort and Lang Co Resort.

Lang Co Resort's assets are frozen and cannot be transferred or sold, at the request of the Ministry of Public Security. Six Miles Coast Resort's investor is completing procedures to resume the project after years of dormancy.

Lang Co was elected the 30th member of the Worldbays Club, an international association of the world's most beautiful bays, at the group's fifth summit in Setubal, Portugal, in May 2009, becoming the third Vietnamese bay to join after Ha Long and Nha Trang.
