WEST END FINAL

The victim was found suffering from serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the victim's family and loved ones as they come to terms with their loss.

"We are working hard to establish exactly what happened and a team of detectives is progressing a number of enquiries at pace.

"At this stage, we believe this was an isolated incident and there is no evidence to suggest any wider risk to the public.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area, or who may have seen or heard anything unusual, to come forward and speak to us.

“Even the smallest piece of information could prove vital in helping us understand the circumstances surrounding this man's death.

"We understand this news will cause concern within the local community and residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as our investigation continues.”

No arrests have been made but a crime scene remains in place in Poynders Road while detectives continue their investigation.

Anyone with information, CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam footage that may assist officers should contact police on 101, quoting CAD7021/04SEP26.

Information can also be provided anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
