Melaka polls: Bersatu drops out of Gadek race

MELAKA: Bersatu has dropped out of the race for the Gadek seat in the Melaka election, despite previously announcing that it would field a candidate there.
Checks on the Election Commission website showed that the seat is set for a four-cornered contest, with no Bersatu candidate in the race.
Barisan Nasional is fielding Melaka MIC deputy chairman S. Nadarajah to defend the seat against three challengers.
They are Jegasilan Kungamboo of Pakatan Harapan, B Laveen of Bersama and Laila Norinda Maon of Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).
Bersatu had previously announced that the party would field Mohd Zamri Abu Bakar in Gadek.
The New Straits Times has reached out to Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for comment.
In the 2021 state election, BN's Datuk VP Shanmugam won the seat with a majority of 559 votes.
