Indonesia calls for faster implementation of two-state solution

We must continue to knock on the door of every country that has yet to recognize Palestine,

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia called for the acceleration of the implementation of the two-state solution amid ongoing violence and displacement in Palestine, Foreign Minister Sugiono said.

"The Palestinian people continue to face violence and displacement. We must bring this reality to an end," Sugiono said at the Ministerial-Level Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States, on Thursday.

He said that a year after the adoption of the New York Declaration and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, international support for the two-state solution continues to grow, with more countries recognizing the State of Palestine.

"We now have an opportunity and a responsibility to turn this growing political momentum into concrete and collective actions," he said.

Indonesia called on countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to grant recognition immediately as part of efforts to advance the realization of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

"We must continue to knock on the door of every country that has yet to recognize Palestine, because every recognition will remove another brick from the wall of occupation," he said.

At the same time, Indonesia firmly rejected actions that threaten Palestinian statehood, including the expansion of Israeli settlements.

"The E1 settlement plan is a clear example. Indonesia rejects it. The UN rejects it. The international community must reject it as well," he said.

Indonesia also emphasized the importance of maintaining the legal and historical status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem.

The country said it would continue to provide humanitarian assistance, strengthen Palestinian capacity, and fully support the realization of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

In November, as a further expression of its commitment, Indonesia and the Netherlands will co-host the next meeting of the Global Alliance in The Hague. Indonesia believes political support must be translated into coordinated measures to safeguard Palestinian statehood, uphold international law, and bring an end to the occupation.

Indonesia also emphasized the importance of involving the Palestinian people in every decision regarding their future, with the shared goal of realizing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

"Our unity is our leverage, and let's use it to achieve our shared goal: the realization of an independent and sovereign state of Palestine," he said.

Sugiono, who is leading the Indonesian delegation in New York, said Jakarta is preparing to initiate the domestic ratification process and align the treaty's provisions with national legislation.

Additionally, Sugiono is scheduled to deliver Indonesia's national statement during the UN General Debate on Saturday evening (September 26).
