Sundowns legend tips Orlando Pirates to win the MTN8 final

Translate

Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Vuyo Mere has tipped Orlando Pirates to beat his former team when the two teams meet in tbe MTN8 final next month.

Moses Mabhida will host the MTN8 final between the Buccaneers and The Brazilians on 10 October.

Pirates have won the competition of four consecutive seasons and will look to add a fifth to their collection in recent years.

Mere, who won the MTN8 with Sundowns, feels Pirates could add another title at Moses Mabhida Stadium. This will be the third time the two teams meet in a final in a space of three years.

“I think it’s still lingering in their minds to say that we haven’t won anything domestically in four seasons, so now we need to improve and do better domestically, because now a lot of people would think that Mamelodi Sundowns focuses on the CAF Champions League and the Club World Cup,” he told iDiski Times.

“I would say Orlando Pirates [are the favourites] because of the experience in this tournament and the momentum that they took from last season,” Mere said.

Pirates favourites against Sundowns in the final

Although Sundowns defeated Pirates in their last league encounter, the Buccaneers are unbeaten in two cup finals against Masandawana. In 2023, the Sea Robbers overcame Downs to clinch the MTN8 before beating them later that season in the Nedbank Cup final.

Abdeslam Ouaddou is looking to win his third straight final while the club could win their 10th trophy in just six years.
