Portugal will be without talisman Cristiano Ronaldo when it travels to take on Denmark in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday.

The 41-year-old was benched and did not get a chance to play in Portugal’s previous match against Norway, which Portugal won 2-1. Reports emerged that Ronaldo had a rift with head coach Jorge Jesus, but the latter dismissed those claims in the pre-match press conference.

However, he noted that Ronaldo would not start against Denmark and Goncalo Ramos, who scored the winner against Norway, would play instead.

“Following the national team coach’s press conference and after having a conversation with the Portuguese Football Federation president, I decided to leave the national team’s training camp,” Ronaldo said in a post on social media on Wednesday.

Portugal currently leads its group with six points, three ahead of Norway and Denmark in second and third, respectively, while Wales is last with zero points.
