MANILA, Philippines — Police arrested veteran journalist Philip Lustre Jr. while he was attending a media forum in Quezon City on Saturday, October 24, over a cyber libel case filed in Davao City.

Officers from the Quezon City Police District's Station 10 took Lustre into custody, acting on a warrant issued by Davao City Regional Trial Court Branch 10, state-run Radyo Pilipinas reported.

Lustre's lawyer, Dino De Leon, said his client was unaware of the case before the arrest. He added that police had no information on who filed the complaint.

De Leon said Lustre's camp would post P48,000 bail and seek the reopening of the preliminary investigation.

Lustre was brought to the QCPD Kamuning Station 10 for booking and underwent physical and medical examinations.

Lustre is a longtime journalist and critic of the Duterte family. He wrote "Kill, Kill, Kill," a book about former President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs. — with reports from The STAR  / Miguel de Guzman
