37 Ilocos Norte schools get rainwater catchment drums amid El Niño threat

Translate

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur— The provincial government of Ilocos Norte distributed rainwater catchment drums to 37 selected schools as part of efforts to conserve water and prepare for the possible effects of a strong El Niño.

In an a statement Saturday, Gov. Cecilia Araneta-Marcos said she led the distribution of the catchment drums at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena in this city on Wednesday, stressing the need for schools and communities to adopt measures to cope with water shortages amid the growing impact of climate change.

The drums will allow schools to collect and store rainwater for appropriate uses, particularly during the dry season when water supplies are often strained.
