The IDF is expected to reinforce its West Bank division with additional combat troops as incidents of nationalist violence targeting Palestinians in the area have increased sharply in both frequency and severity in recent days, amid growing tensions surrounding the annual olive harvest.

"The olive harvest season is known to be a sensitive period, and it is a time accompanied by various groups, including outsiders who do not live in Judea and Samaria but come to the area, who try to prevent the harvest. It is important to note that in 98% of cases, there is no need to coordinate with the IDF to harvest olives, and coordination is required in only 2% of the area," a security official explained.

Over the past 24 hours, Palestinian vehicles have been set on fire and destroyed at multiple locations, particularly around Ramallah, which falls under the jurisdiction of the IDF's Binyamin Regional Brigade.

Jewish rioters have also stolen olives harvested by Palestinians and assaulted several Palestinians, leaving victims bleeding. A Washington Post photojournalist was also wounded amid recent clashes. No arrests were reported in connection with any of the incidents.

The rise in nationalist violence, just one week into the olive harvest season, has prompted plans for a security assessment in the coming days.

Security officials concerned continued violence could further inflame tensions across West Bank

With another month of the olive harvest remaining, security officials worry continued violence could further inflame tensions across the West Bank.

"The IDF is deployed in locations where the olive harvest has been coordinated in order to prevent friction," the security official said. "At the same time, there has been an increase in warnings of terrorist attacks. Dozens of warnings come in every week."

"Just this week, a cell of four terrorists who were planning to carry out an attack was arrested in the Jenin area," he added. "On the other hand, those same forces also need to protect the olive harvest."

The official also criticized rabbis who encourage the violence surrounding the olive harvest, arguing that their support contributes to the continued attacks.

"This should not happen. There are various reasons for nationalist crime, but it is also because they receive backing," the official said.
