The House prosecution panel on Friday confirmed that financial forensic analyst Atty. Alexander Cabrera is the last witness that they will present in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

House prosecutor Akbayan party-list Rep. Chel Diokno said this on the 37th day of the trial when asked by Senate impeachment court presiding officer Francis Escudero if the prosecution will still present the witness from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after the testimony of Cabrera.

“Atty. Alexander B. Cabrera is our last witness, Your Honor, for our case-in-chief,” Diokno answered.

Impeachment court spokesperson Regie Tongol explained that if the prosecution will already be resting for Article 2, which alleges that Duterte should be impeached for amassing unexplained wealth, then it means that Article 3 would be tackled next.

“Pero alam ko na alam niyo na rin na nakatanggap ang impeachment court ng manifestation that formally manifest to the impeachment court na ido-drop ang Article 3. Hintayin po natin ‘yung ating Presiding Officer to take that up on Monday,” Tongol said in a press conference.

(But I know that you are also aware that the impeachment court has received a manifestation that formally manifests to the impeachment court that Article 3 will be dropped. Let’s wait for our Presiding Officer to take that up on Monday.)

The prosecution announced earlier today that it already filed a manifestation with the Senate impeachment court that it will drop Article III or the bribery charges in the trial of the Vice President.

The trial on Friday ended with the direct examination of Cabrera. The defense will proceed with the cross-examination of the witness on Monday next week. –NB, GMA News
