Kaizer Chiefs set to reward experienced midfielder with new contract

Translate

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly looking to extend Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s contract after his impressive performances this season.

The 32-year-old midfielder has been exceptional for Amakhosi, helping to marshal the midfield and establish himself as an important member of the team.

He has also developed formidable partnerships with Lebohang Maboe and Sphesihle Ndlovu in the middle of the park.

According to SoccerBeat, Chiefs are looking to extend Mthethwa’s stay at Naturena by another year.

“SoccerBeat understands that Kaizer Chiefs have offered Sibongiseni Mthethwa a one-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year.

“The proposed deal could keep him at Naturena until June 2028.”

Mthethwa joined Kaizer Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC in September 2023, signing a three-year contract.

Since arriving at Naturena, he has made more than 50 appearances for the Soweto giants and was part of the squad that lifted the Nedbank Cup in 2025.

However, his journey at Chiefs has not always been smooth. Having arrived from Stellies with high expectations, Ox struggled during his first season, with injuries limiting his opportunities.

Under former head coach Nasreddine Nabi, the midfielder was also overlooked and struggled for regular game time.

It was under the interim coaching partnership of Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze that Mthethwa received another opportunity to prove himself.

Since then, he has become a regular feature in the Chiefs lineup, with his partnership alongside Maboe providing consistency in the Amakhosi midfield.

The reported contract offer could see the experienced midfielder remain at Naturena until June 2028.
