Social Ministry consolidates elderly data for MIPAA 2026 survey

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Social Affairs Ministry led Indonesia’s 2026 Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) survey, gathering crucial input across ministries, government agencies, and NGOs to shape the nation's elderly welfare policies.

"Indonesia has been asked to report on the progress of policy implementation, including achievements, challenges, gaps, and priorities that need to be strengthened," said Director General of Social Rehabilitation Supomo, in opening remarks read out by Director of Elderly Social Rehabilitation Suratna on Thursday (September 24).

The national MIPAA survey's public consolidation was held September 23-24, 2026, in Jakarta.

This strategic gathering aimed to verify and validate national data regarding policies, programs, and achievements in senior development prior to its submission on the global stage.

MIPAA functions as a tool to measure how effectively Indonesia translates its strategic vision for elderly development into real actions.

The MIPAA survey consists of 49 indicator questions covering national policy, the role of the elderly in development, welfare and health, supportive environments, and cross-generational issues.

"Elderly development is positioned as part of Indonesia's commitment to achieving the 2030 SDGs Agenda, which is reinforced through Presidential Regulation No. 88 of 2021 on the National Strategy for Elderly Development and integrated into the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN)," Suratna said.

The consolidation process included assessments of social protection and pensions, health services, long-term care, mental health and dementia, support for caregivers, employment, accessibility, transportation, digital literacy, and protection from violence and neglect.

The Social Affairs Ministry also stressed the importance of data disaggregated by age, gender, disability status, and geographic region to guarantee an evidence-backed national response.

"The quality of Indonesia's national response greatly depends on data accuracy, evidence of implementation, and clarity on the gaps we manage to identify," Suratna said.

The results of this consolidation will not only serve as material for reports at the Asia-Pacific and international levels, but will also serve as material for internal evaluation to strengthen elderly development policy domestically, Suratna added.
