Landman Is Officially Changing The Show's Formula In Season 3

It used to be a given that TV shows would come back for new episodes every year. A season of television is so-called because, like the four seasons of the Gregorian calendar, they arrive once a year. Back in the day, a show like Lost or The X-Files could pump out 20+ episodes every single year, like clockwork. Now, we have to wait three years for a show like Wednesday to release eight new episodes. There are two years between seasons of The Boys and House of the Dragon, three years between seasons of Andor and Severance, and God only knows how many years it’ll be before Pluribus comes back for season 2.

It’s getting rarer and rarer that TV shows can stick to a consistent release schedule. From The Bear to The Pitt to Abbott Elementary to Only Murders in the Building, the shows that actually can deliver a new season every year are greatly appreciated.

When it got its second season out just a year after its first, Landman seemed to be joining that club. Season 1 premiered in November 2024 and ended in January 2025, and then season 2 premiered in November 2025 and ended in January 2026, so the series seemed to be settling into a very rigid annual release schedule, where it would debut a new season at exactly the same time every year. But, sadly, that streak has already ended.

Going off the trajectory of seasons 1 and 2, we should expect to see Landman season 3 premiere in just a couple of weeks, but that’s not going to happen. Landman has been renewed for season 3 since way back in December 2025, but the third season has been delayed, and it won’t premiere until 2027. So, Landman is becoming yet another streaming show that keeps its audience waiting.

Why Landman Season 3 Has Been Delayed

Landman season 3 has been pushed back due to filming delays. Filming for season 2 began in April 2025 and lasted through to August 2025, so they were able to get some episodes finished in time for a November 2025 release. Production on Landman season 3 was supposed to start in May 2026, but it got pushed back to August, so there was nowhere near enough time for the team to shoot, edit, polish, and release full episodes in time for season 3’s projected release date. So, we won’t see Landman’s third season until 2027.

Hopefully, it’ll be worth the wait. Landman’s season 2 finale was essentially a reset for the series, completely shifting the status quo. Tommy cut his own puppet strings, started his own company, and filled out the board of directors with his friends and family. This will simplify and streamline the series, bringing the entire cast together under the banner of an independent, family-run business.

Now that Tommy has tapped Cooper as the president of his new venture, Landman will go full There Will Be Blood as father and son go into business together and loyalties are tested. Now that Tommy has hired Ariana for the staff of his new company, he can take her under his wing as a sort of surrogate daughter (especially now that Ainsley is going off to college), and the show can dig deeper into the begrudging mutual respect that’s grown between them over the course of seasons 1 and 2.

We’ll have to wait a little longer for Landman season 3 to arrive, but it’s poised to be the show’s best outing to date. If it can live up to the promise of the season 2 finale, then Landman’s third season can take Taylor Sheridan’s hit neo-western to a whole new level.
