Georgia has sacked manager Willy Sagnol and replaced him Ramaz Svanadze after suffering a UEFA Nations League 2026-27 defeat to Northern Ireland.
Svanadze had been manager of Georgia’s Under-21 side for the past five years, and has signed a contract until the end of 2028.
Frenchman Sagnol, a prolific winner with Bayern Munich as a player, has been in charge of Georgia since 2021 and led it to the European Championships for the first time in 2024 where it was knocked out by eventual champion Spain.

However, its recent results have been less impressive, and in its FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiying campaign it lost five out of its six matches.
“Thank you, Willy Sagnol, for every minute spent in the Georgian national team and for the emotions we went through together on this historic path,” a Georgian FA statement said.
