Bali authorities arrest three foreign nationals in prostitution probe

Translate

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Immigration authorities in Bali have detained three foreign nationals from Uganda, Russia, and Nigeria suspected of involvement in an online prostitution ring, officials announced Monday.

The Denpasar Immigration Office identified the suspects as JN, 35, of Uganda; AS, 29, of Russia; and BDC, 32, of Nigeria.

The arrests followed tip-offs from local residents regarding visa violations, which led intelligence officers to an online platform where foreign nationals were allegedly advertising sexual services.

Profile listings showed rates ranging from $100 (1.8 million rupiah) to $870 (13.7 million rupiah).

Immigration officers raided a villa on Padang Tegal Sari Road in Denpasar on Wednesday, Oct. 28, taking all three individuals into custody for questioning.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the operation targeted local or foreign clients.

"Residents' participation is important, as it helps us in monitoring activities of foreign nationals in Bali," said Denpasar Immigration Office Head R Haryo Sakti.

Ramdhani, head of the Directorate General of Immigration's Bali regional office, warned that foreign visitors must strictly adhere to local laws and visa conditions, adding that enforcement sweeps against lawbreakers across the resort island will be stepped up.
