The Mummy 4's release date is now looking even more perfect thanks to the results of 2026 thus far, making the upcoming action adventure movie seem like even more of a promising addition to 2027's film roster. Given the original 1999 The Mummy is still held up as one of the best and most classic action films of all time, it's likely to be a franchise wherein audiences are always interested in a potential next chapter, so long as it holds to what made the 90s film work so well upon its release.
The franchise has thus far had mixed results when it comes to doing just that, with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor proving a particularly controversial chapter of the series, and leading the film franchise to something of a standstill from its 2008 release up until the modern day.
With The Mummy 4 on the near horizon thanks to its scheduled 2027 release, we're soon set to see if the franchise can build a fresh future for itself, and reignite audience interest in newer chapters of the narrative's story. Based on The Mummy's most recent results this year, it certainly seems to be in a good position to do so, and one that's consistently been strengthened ever since we first learned The Mummy 4 was on the cards.
2026 Has Made The Mummy 4's Release Date Even More Perfect
The prospect of The Mummy 4 being on the horizon for 2027 was promising by itself, given the nostalgia for the original film - and for at least elements of its sequels, even if some are not so beloved - sets a strong case for this later follow-up's success. However, 2026 has made this look even more promising, by reviving the original The Mummy movie's popularity once more in a major way.
October 2026 has seen The Mummy have a streaming resurgence of sorts, with the film becoming one of Netflix's biggest movies. September saw The Mummy enter Netflix's Top 10 global movies chart, and the start of October saw The Mummy become the 3rd most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide, showing how many households and users have been turning to the supernaturally-focused film as we head into fall.
This is sure to have increased the number of people excited to see The Mummy 4 upon its release, and similarly suggests The Mummy may have another revival of sorts in the days before its 2027 debut in theaters. The Mummy 4's October 15 2027 release should theoretically allow for this to repeat once more from those eager to watch or rewatch The Mummy during the start of the proverbial spooky season, and encourage further success for the impending film overall.
The Mummy 4's Prospects Have Become So Much Stronger Ever Since It Was Announced
When news broke in 2025 that The Mummy 4 was in the works, fans and general action movie aficionados were excited by this information alone. However, the matter became even more exciting for a wider range of people when it was also unveiled that said film would be disregarding The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which was and remains the most poorly received installment in The Mummy's movie franchise by a long margin, meaning ignoring the film offers a chance to start anew in a sense.
The continual cast updates for The Mummy 4 have further exacerbated hopes around the film, as a wide slew of actors who previously played key roles in the franchise are set to return in the upcoming movie. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are joined by John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr, and Kevin J. O'Connor in the returning cast, with Michael Johnston also having been confirmed for the film - which is naturally also a major matter, given his strong performance as Bear in 2025's Obsession.
Altogether, the results of The Mummy and the wider reveals around The Mummy 4 more specifically have increasingly paved a promising path for the upcoming 2027 sequel, and the impact it could have on the franchise as its next brave steps forward.
