Lawmaker backs Prabowo cabinet reshuffle, leadership shifts

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The recent cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Prabowo Subianto as his administration approaches its two-year mark represents a strategic evaluation aimed at streamlining government operations, according to a senior lawmaker.
Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) Dave Laksono said in Jakarta on Saturday that the presidential decision reflected ongoing performance assessments intended to ensure that the administration meets its key policy targets.
“What matters most following this change is how the government can operate more effectively,” Dave said.
He noted that swift internal consolidation across ministries and agencies following the inauguration of new officials is critical to ensuring that priority initiatives proceed rapidly, precisely, and measurably while delivering direct benefits to the public.
However, Dave emphasized that newly appointed officials must be given adequate opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities.
He stressed that leadership should be evaluated not only on the basis of background or previous positions but also on competence, integrity, managerial capability, and tangible results once in office.
“Therefore, this reshuffle should not merely be a change of personnel but must serve as momentum to strengthen government performance. Newly appointed officials need to get to work immediately and demonstrate achievements that the public can truly feel,” the lawmaker added.
The latest reorganization marks the seventh cabinet reshuffle during President Prabowo’s tenure, involving changes across multiple ministerial portfolios as well as key security positions.
Among the most prominent changes in the latest reshuffle is the appointment of Police General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
Dave highlighted General Suyudi’s extensive law enforcement background, including his previous leadership of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), as a critical asset in addressing pressing national security issues.
“Ultimately, the most important factor is how this new leadership can strengthen the professionalism of the National Police, enhance public service, and ensure fair law enforcement,” he said.
He pointed out that the police face complex challenges, including combating narcotics trafficking, online gambling, and smuggling, while maintaining public security. Strengthening internal alignment and inter-agency coordination will be crucial to addressing these issues effectively.
Concluding his statement, Dave affirmed that the House of Representatives will maintain close oversight of executive programs to ensure their effective implementation.
“Ultimately, the measure of success is the government’s performance and the tangible benefits experienced by the public,” he said.
