New York Mayor Mamdani condemns 'unconscionable' shooting as he demands that Trump end ICE raids in the city
A man was injured after a shooting involving US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents, New York City metropolitan police said Thursday.
What do we know so far?
The shooting occurred at around 4 p.m. local time (2100 GMT) in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx, which is one of New York's five boroughs.
Details are still emerging, but the New York Police Department has denied that its personnel were involved in the shooting.
"The individual who was shot is at a nearby hospital and is currently conscious and receiving medical attention," the NYPD said in a statement.
The DHS is the parent agency of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
US President Donald Trump's administration has scaled up ICE raids in major US cities to detain and deport people who are in the US illegally.
Local media in New York said ICE was involved in the latest shooting in the Bronx, which has sparked protests.

Mamdani says he is contacting Trump to end ICE actions in NYC
New York City Zohran Mamdani condemned the shooting and said he is calling President Trump.
"This is an unconscionable and incredible serious situation," Mamdani said in a post on X. "I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agent terrorize our communities.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul earlier said she has been briefed on the incident.
"We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding the incident," Hochul said in a statement posted on X.
"New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why."
DHS has not yet publicly commented on the incident.
ICE, CBP fatal shootings raise alarm in second Trump term
Deadly ICE and Border Patrol shootings have drawn major controversy during Trump's second term, particularly regarding the training and oversight of the agents.
An ICE agent killed a 37-year-old US citizen, Renee Good, during their operations in Minnepolis in January, triggering demonstrations there and in several other US cities.
Later that month, Alex Pretti, another US citizen, was killed by two US Customs and Border Protection officers agents in Minneapolis following an altercation.
