Traffic cops to test Harley-Davidsons for patrol duties

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) will assess three Harley-Davidson motorcycles on their suitability for traffic enforcement duties.

The three motorcycles — a 2026 Street Glide M8 117, 2026 Low Rider ST 117 High-Output and 2026 Pan America 1250 Special — were handed over to TEID director Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali by Route 77 Motors Sdn Bhd board member Datuk Omar Ali Abdullah at Route 77 Motors in Jalan Ampang here yesterday.

The trial patrols will run from Sept 24 to Dec 31, with Route 77 Motors offering the motorcycles to TEID without any obligation to purchase.

"The trial will allow TEID to conduct practical assessments of the motorcycles' performance, handling, comfort, capabilities and suitability for traffic enforcement operations.

"The initiative is also aimed at enabling TEID to explore suitable vehicle assets and technologies in collaboration with the industry to support its operational requirements, enhance personnel readiness and improve the effectiveness of traffic enforcement duties," the department said in a Facebook post.

Also present were Harley-Davidson dealer principal Larry Yap Eng Keong, TEID secretariat chief Assistant Commissioner Shankar Sanrakasa, and senior TEID officers and Harley-Davidson representatives.
