John Oliver Reveals His 50th Birthday Plans Involve a Keg Stand

Olivia Munn Gives Birthday Shoutout to Daughter Méi, 2, at Emmys 2026
John Oliver intends on laughing well into his next chapter.
In fact, the Last Week Tonight host and his wife Kate Norley are already mapping out what the celebration will look like when his 50th birthday comes around in April.
As Norley exclusively told Keltie Knight in a joint interview with Oliver during Live From E!: 2026 Emmys Sept. 14, “It's definitely going to involve a keg stand.”
And while the comedian hopes no one ends up with a “broken nose and face” at the soirée, he has an inkling that an injury brought on by the rager would be just his luck, jokingly predicting his tenure on one of HBO’s longest running shows may get cut short “due to a keg stand and natural selection.”
For right now, though, Oliver and the Last Week Tonight team are ushering the beloved series into its 13th year on the air. As for how that milestone feels?
“It’s amazing,” he mused. “I cannot believe we got away with it this long.”
But even with the show’s success, Oliver admitted that he sometimes feels “like an insect in this Hollywood world.”
In fact, he even finds himself getting starstruck when he comes across the occasional Bravolebrity.
“If I see a Real Housewife in the wild, and I mean in the wild, not at an event,” he explained, “walking around in the wild, a living, breathing Real Housewife in a functional human environment, that's incredible to me.”
“It’s like seeing a cartoon character,” he quipped. “It's like if Donald Duck was in Ralph's.”

Even so, Housewives wouldn’t be his first pick when it comes to his dream guest star appearance.
“I would be on Beef,” he said, before adding of his late night talk show, “We've pissed off a lot of people over the years. I think there's a lot of people that I could be functionally in a series of beef with.”
And he may just pull it off considering he manifested his appearances on General Hospital and Days of Our Lives over the summer—although he doesn’t want to continue his streak of using his on-air time to book roles.
“I was on General Hospital this year, so I'm not sure that I feel comfortable asking for another one,” he said. “My soap dreams already came true. I can't really ask for any more than that.”
