DPMM stun Terengganu to reach FA Cup quarter-finals

KUALA TERENGGANU: DPMM advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals after beating Terengganu 3-1 in their first round, second-leg match to win 5-4 on aggregate at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium yesterday.

The Brunei-based club will face KL City in the quarter-finals with the first leg scheduled at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Sunday.

The visiting side, managed by Jamie McAllister, got off to a flying start when Danial Asri headed home from a Farris Awang Kechik corner in the seventh minute.

The goal brought the aggregate score level at 3-3, after Nafuzi Zain's side won the first leg 3-2 on Sept 9.

Shaken by the goal, Terengganu stepped up their attack, but midfielder Victor Ruiz fired over the bar in the 16th minute, while Romel Morales headed off target 10 minutes later.

DPMM nearly doubled their lead through Jordan Murray in the 32nd and 38th minutes, but goalkeeper Suhaimi Husin reacted quickly to deny the Australian striker.

The home team's efforts paid off in the 44th minute when Manuel Ott slammed the ball into the left side of the net to make it 1-1.

DPMM took little time to restore their lead after the break when Miguel Oliveira finished off a pass from Murray in the 54th minute to make it 4-4 on aggregate.

Ten minutes later, Murray turned hero by tapping in during a scramble in the penalty box to seal the 3-1 win and record a 5-4 aggregate victory.

Terengganu brought on Elvis Kamsoba, Pape Diakite, Haziq Kutty Abba, and G. Pavithran to search for a way back, but failed to break through DPMM's defence before the final whistle.
