INQToday: Veloso pardoned, new impeachment conviction voting rule questioned

Mary Jane Veloso, who has spent nearly 15 years imprisoned on a drug smuggling conviction before continuing her detention in the Philippines, has been granted an absolute pardon by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Former Executive Secretary Vic Rodgriues has filed a petition for certiorari and prohibition in the Supreme Court over the new rule on the two-thirds vote to convict an impeachment official, adopted by the Senate impeachment court. Rodriguez says the new rule has effectively rewritten the Constitution.

The price of diesel may drop by P7 per liter next week because of optimism that peace talks between the US and Iran may ease tensions in the Middle East and stabilize oil prices. /atm
