French teacher arrested for working without permit in Rayong

BANGKOK — 11 September 2026, Rayong Provincial Employment Office officials have arrested a French language teacher for allegedly working without a work permit at a language school inside a major shopping mall in Rayong.

Officials from the office’s division responsible for inspecting foreign workers and protecting job seekers conducted inspections at two language schools in major shopping centres as part of a crackdown on illegal foreign employment.

At the first school, officials found seven employees, four Thais and three South Africans. All documents and work permits were found to be in order.

At the second school, officials found five employees, three Thais, one Bangladeshi and one French national. The French language teacher was unable to produce a valid work permit during the inspection.

Officials subsequently charged the French national with working as a foreigner without a work permit.

The employer was also charged with employing a foreign national without a work permit under Thailand’s law governing the employment of foreign workers.

The French national was taken to investigators at Muang Rayong Police Station for further legal proceedings.
