JOHOR BARU: Police are awaiting further instructions from the state prosecution office on the murder of 16-year-old student Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the investigation papers were handed to the public prosecutor on Friday.

"The Johor prosecution office is still reviewing the case, given that the suspect is a juvenile, and it requires careful consideration," he told a press conference after the Johor police contingent's monthly assembly today.

The 16-year-old suspect was initially remanded for six days, with his remand extended by another six days until Thursday, to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The victim was found with severe injuries in a school hall in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, on Oct 3.
