Democrats eye top Trump family members and closest allies in subpoena flurry: Here's their secret list of top targets

Translate

Democrats in Congress have openly told the Trump administration and their benefactors to 'lawyer up,' prepare for subpoenas and expect to testify on Capitol Hill come next year.

The top Democratic member on the House Oversight Committee, Robert Garcia of California, is expected to become the powerful investigative panel's chairman come January 2027 – a promotion enabling him to set the agenda and legally compel witnesses to reveal their secrets.

'Anything that has to do with Trump family corruption is going to be looked at on day one,' a Democratic congressional official with knowledge of the committee's plans granted anonymity to discuss them told the Daily Mail.

'Anyone colluding with the Trump administration, anything regarding corporate corruption is going to be top of the list as well,' the source added.

There was a laundry list of items the source discussed that could be potential sensitive areas of investigation, with implications for the president's family, his business partners, advisors and White House staffers.

Probing Donald Trump Jr's May 2026 wedding to Bettina Trump and Jared Kushner's 'mysterious island pursuits' that he and Ivanka have,' are just some of the offerings Democrats are circling.

Trump Jr and a representative for Kushner were contacted by the Daily Mail for comment.

Outside of the president's inner orbit, there are plans for large-scale, tedious reviews of the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), both of which have seen massive funding booms during Trump's second term.

President Donald Trump, his family, his business associates, his staff and corporate benefactors are all investigative priorities for congressional Democrats

Top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Robert Garcia, is expected to become the chairman of the powerful committee next year. Sources close to him tell the Daily Mail that his 'day one' priority will be investigating the president and his family

'If you're a corporation and you have been ripping off the American people and you've been working with Donald Trump to get some sort of deal out of this. You should start retaining your documents,' the source said

Finally – perhaps the most self-inflicted controversy Democrats on the Oversight panel are seeking to put to bed: probing the Trump administration's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and its 'client list' went so mysteriously sideways after years of MAGA figures championing the trove's full, unredacted release.

Republicans are bracing for impact.

Congressman Steve Scalise, the House GOP Majority Leader who is eyeing a bid to become the party's minority leader come next year, informed his colleagues in a memo that Democrats are going to be focused on 'retribution' next year.

Democrats, he said, will be focused on 'unleashing countless witch hunts under the guise of 'oversight.'

The letter from Scalise, first reported by Fox News, instructs GOP committee chairs to identify the Democrats' potential targets, such as officials in the Trump administration and external allies.

'Is it best practice to put a cover up scheme in writing?' Christie Stephenson, an aide for Democrat Hakeem Jeffries, replied to the report on the memo.

Democrats' stunning victories in the November elections have already netted the left at least 247 seats in the House of Representatives and 54 seats in the Senate.

Their control over Capitol Hill will not only give them investigative power, but it will give the left a better footing to negotiate from a budget-negotiating and foreign policy perspective.

One target Democrats are keen on, particularly given the war in Iran, is the Pentagon.

Pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in a 2012 photo released in the Epstein files. Democrats will investigate the files further, sources told the Daily Mail

Donald Trump Jr's wedding to Bettina is also of interest to liberal lawmakers

Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law who has volunteered for the US government, is also another individual that's grabbed the interest of Democrats

Businessmen and large corporations who have donated to Trump or made deals with him are also said to be of interest for potential probes

The war, strikes on boats in Latin America and the Caribbean, 'SignalGate,' and the handling of classified information, along with senior personnel purges, have all been concerns of Democratic lawmakers, and now they can push to investigate further.

The president's cozy relationship with eminent business executives like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Sergey Brin, and others has also raised eyebrows.

'If you're a corporation and you have been ripping off the American people and you've been working with Donald Trump to get some sort of deal out of this, you should start retaining your documents,' the Democratic source said.

Current House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican, subpoenaed Hunter Biden in November 2023. When Republicans moved to a contempt vote, Biden sat for a deposition in 2024.

In 2019, the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee subpoenaed Don Jr, though he negotiated a limited closed-door testimony.

Democratic congressman Jamie Raskin, who will chair the powerful Judiciary Committee, has described the scale of what is planned in pursuing the Trumps as 'gargantuan.'

Of particular interest to Raskin are a cryptocurrency deal that brought in $1.4 billion and Don Jr's venture capital firm.

Ahead of the upcoming battle, the firm has accused Raskin of 'political gamesmanship' and a 'troubling lack of financial literacy.'

1789 Capital, a Florida-based financial firm where Don Jr serves as a partner, previously rejected a records request from Raskin, according to a letter reviewed by CBS News.
