The Pitt Season 3 Confirmed To Abandon Big ER Story After 15 Episodes

The Pitt season 3 won't be continuing one major season 2 plot thread.

Created by R. Scott Gemmill, the hit HBO medical drama returned earlier this year for its sophomore outing, following Noah Wyle's Dr. Robby and the rest of the staff at Pittsburg Trauma Medical Center (PTMC) during a 15-hour shift on the Fourth of July Weekend. After season 2's success, The Pitt season 3 is now in production and is confirmed to premiere next January.

Story information about season 3 is relatively limited, but Nurse Dana actor Katherine LaNasa now confirms in an interview with Us Magazine that the new season of The Pitt won't be addressing what happened to baby Jane Doe from season 2. Though LaNasa won't say much about the patients to come in the upcoming episodes, she does confirm that Dana will once again get to say "Jane Doe," this time as it relates to a jogger:

“We have a Jane Doe jogger.They just wanted me to say Jane Doe again. They can’t say baby, just Jane Doe.”

A prominent storyline in The Pitt season 2 involved the staff at PTMC working together to care for a baby that was abandoned in a hospital bathroom. The baby plays a crucial role in Robby's development, helping him to overcome thoughts of despair and suicide, but her fate is ultimately left ambiguous. Though baby Jane Doe is last seen healthy and safe, she is not adopted by anyone at the hospital.

Season 3 picks up four months after the end of The Pitt season 2, so it would make sense that baby Jane Doe has left the hospital and found a home elsewhere. As with seasons 1 and 2, it seems that season 3 will focus mostly on new patients, including LaNasa's Jane Doe jogger.

In keeping with past seasons, season 3 is expected to consist of 15 episodes, with each episode covering one hour of a 15-hour shift. In addition to Wyle and LaNasa, the season 3 cast is expected to include returning stars Patrick Ball, Shabana Azeez, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Sepidah Moafi, Ayesha Harris, and Shawn Hatosy.

Though Supriya Ganesh will not be returning as Dr. Mohan and Azeez's Dr. Javadi will be out of the emegency department on her psychiatry rotation, season 3 will feature plenty of newcomers. Fresh faces added to the cast include Chris Diamantopoulos, JB Tadena, Stephen Chang, Barry Clifton, Lawrence Kao, Brent Sexton, and Hannah Ware.

While many questions remain about what is to come in The Pitt season 3, LaNasa's latest update at least confirms that audiences shouldn't expect a definitive conclusion to baby Jane Doe's story. Nurse Dana once more saying "Jane Doe," however, means at least one viral component of season 2 will be returning.
