KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — The chief executive officer of a fruit and vegetable wholesale, import and export company is expected to be charged today over a durian orchard purchase scam involving about RM1.65 million, the New Straits Times reported.
The man, in his 50s, was arrested at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya at 12pm yesterday after giving his statement.
Initial investigations showed the offence took place in February 2024, but the orchard purchase never materialised, a source told the newspaper.
MACC chief Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, and the suspect will be charged in court in Shah Alam, Selangor today.
The MACC previously launched Op Kingfruit over a durian investment scam in Raub, Pahang, freezing bank accounts and seizing assets worth RM16.15 million.
