Calapan–Batangas ferry fares rise, operators cite fuel price surge
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Ferry operators in the vital Calapan–Batangas route have implemented fare increases, citing the rise in petroleum prices.
Starlite Ferries raised its Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) adult passenger fare from P576 to P696, while fast craft fares increased from P720 to P840.
Discounted fares for students, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities also rose by an average of P120 per passenger.

Infants, who were previously exempted, will now be charged P60.

Montenegro Shipping Lines Inc. and FastCat Ferries have likewise increased fares.
The fare adjustments were posted on the shipping companies’ websites and social media pages on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Operators said the higher cost of fuel was the primary reason for the fare increases, noting that fuel accounts for a significant portion of their operating expenses.
The Calapan–Batangas sea route serves as a major transport and economic link between Mindoro and mainland Luzon, carrying thousands of passengers, vehicles, and cargo daily. /gsg
