Nene Royal gets warm Phuket welcome after AGT victory

PHUKET — 7 September 2026, Thai teenage singer Nene Royal returned to Phuket after making history by winning America’s Got Talent 2026, with family, officials and fans preparing a warm homecoming for the 16-year-old performer.

Nene, whose real name is Rattikarn Amloy, arrived at Phuket International Airport at 10:50, following her journey from the United States.

Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom, relatives and fans were among those waiting to welcome her home.

Also at the airport was her 89-year-old great-aunt, Kaew Phonkerd, who travelled from Chawaet district in Nakhon Si Thammarat to see Nene.

“I’m so happy, the happiest I’ve ever been,” Kaew said. “If I see Nene, I will hug her because she is my beloved granddaughter. I miss her so much.”

Kaew recalled that Nene visited her with her mother when she was ill. At the time, she said, she made a vow wishing for Nene to finish first at AGT.

“I told her, ‘You have to get No. 1. Don’t miss it,’” Kaew said.

Following Nene’s victory, the family plans to hold a Nora traditional performance as an offering to fulfil the vow. Kaew said the family has already contacted the Nora Phumin troupe, although she could not recall the exact month of the planned performance, scheduled for the 5th.

Kaew also recalled Nene’s childhood, saying she gave her the nickname “Praew” when she was around two months old. She said she has remained closely attached to Nene throughout her childhood.

Phuket prepares grand welcome

Phuket has prepared a public celebration for Nene beginning at 16:00 on 27 September.

The welcome ceremony will begin at Khosimbi Building, where Nene will meet provincial officials before joining an electric vehicle (EV) motorcade organised by Phuket City Municipality.

The convoy will travel to Limelight Phuket before continuing through Phuket Old Town and other areas of the municipality, ending at the Charter Bank intersection.

Nene is also scheduled to perform for local residents and fans as part of the celebration.

People wishing to join the homecoming celebration can gather at Limelight Phuket from 17:00 and watch the EV parade through the city.

Phuket Governor Chotnarin and Deputy Governor Romdon Haji-awae said the province had prepared the event to give Nene a warm welcome and allow residents to celebrate the achievement of their fellow Phuket native.

Nene’s return marks a major homecoming after her international success, bringing together her family, fans and fellow Phuket residents to celebrate her victory on one of the world’s biggest talent-show stages.
