Darwin Nunez scored a brace, while Kim Min-jae struck as own goal as Uruguay thrashed South Korea 4-1 in their international friendly in Seoul on Monday.
It marked a turnaround for Diego Forlan’s side, which had lost 1-3 to Japan in the previous match, also giving the former Uruguayan forward his first win as the national team coach.
Former Liverpool forward Nunez opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Giorgian de Arrascaeta doubled the lead for the South American side. The match slowly slipped out of South Korea’s grip before half-time when Uruguay attacked against the run of play, with Guillermo Varela’s shot deflected into the net off Min-jae’s touch.
Korea tried to make a comeback in the second half, with Kang-in Lee trying to set up Son Heung-min in the box. His cross from the right, however, did not need a deflection as it curled into the net in the 81s minute.
Uruguay will now travel to India for its international friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 2, while South Korea will host Venezuela on October 2.
