‘Stillwater’: Amazon Series Based on Graphic Novel Casts Ben Hardy in Lead Role

Ben Hardy is set to star in the series adaptation of the graphic novel “Stillwater” at Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned.

The series is based on the Skybound graphic novel of the same name and was greenlit at Amazon back in July. The streamer has given the one-hour show an eight-episode order.

The official logline states the show is a “mind-bending horror thriller that focuses on ex-con Daniel West (Hardy). When Daniel receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance in the small town of Stillwater, he discovers a community where nothing ever ages, no one ever dies, and nobody ever gets out.”

“We’ve been fans of Ben’s for a long time, and we’re thrilled to get to tell this story together,” said series writers and executive producers Greg Berlanti and Carly Wray. “There’s a toughness to him, but also something incredibly open and soulful underneath it. Daniel needs both. From the moment we saw Ben in the role, it was impossible to imagine anyone else.”

Hardy is known for his roles in films like “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “6 Underground,” “Only the Brave,” and “X-Men: Apocalypse.” He has also starred in shows like “The Girl Before,” “The Woman in White,” and “EastEnders.”

He is repped by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA and Independent Talent Group.

The “Stillwater” graphic novel was created by Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K Pérez. Wray and Berlanti co-wrote the pilot episode and executive produce, with Berlanti doing so via Berlanti Productions. Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Robbie Rogers of Berlanti Productions also executive produce along with Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs, Glenn Geller, and Zdarsky for Skybound Entertainment. Jonathan Gabay also serves as an executive producer. Warner Bros. Television and Amazon MGM Studios will produce. Berlanti and Wray are both under overall deals at WBTV.
