Hot Chip’s New Album Puts Them A Long Way From Kansas

Translate

Hot Chip have a new album on the way called A Long Way From Kansas, which is set to arrive on January 8. They paired the announcement with a new song, “Random Violence,” a tribute to the late Optimo DJ JD Twitch. Check out the Jack Cole-directed video of it below.

“Last year in September our old friend and brilliant DJ Keith McIvor of Optimo in Glasgow passed away after a diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumour a few months earlier,” Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard shared in a statement. "He largely inspired the words of the song. He was a passionate music lover and a staunch believer in socialism. Many of the words relate directly to his death and to memories of being in Sub Club in Glasgow where we met 20 years ago.”

A Long Way From Kansas marks bandmember Felix Martin’s first time singing on a Hot Chip record, and also features Beth Ditto and Eddie Chacon. The record follows Hot Chip’s 2022 album Freakout/Release. Since then, the band have shared a 2025 reissue of their greatest-hits collection Joy In Repetition, appeared on the second season of Netflix’s Beef, and celebrated the 20th anniversary of their second album, The Warning.
