Mamelodi Sundowns quietly release once sought-after attacker

Mamelodi Sundowns have quietly released Kobamelo Kodisang after the two parties reached an agreement on the termination of their contract.

Kodisang first joined the Brazilians from abroad in 2024, but he struggled for game time a few months down the line.

Prior to him returning home, Kodisang was hot property abroad, and a number of European teams showed interest in him.

Here at home, the speedy attacker was heavily linked with a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs but it was Sundowns who eventually won the race to sign him.

He featured just 13 times in his first season with the Brazilians, scoring twice and providing two assists before being loaned out.

The 27-year-old was first loaned out to Stellenbosch FC where he featured just five times before moving to AVS Futebol SAD in Portugal.

At AVS, Kodisang also made five appearances across all competitions in the second half of the season, and scored a single goal.

Now, upon his return to Sundowns, he was deemed surplus to requirements, and he fought to have his contract terminated before the closing of the transfer window on Monday.

That’s because this would allow him to find a new club outside the transfer window as he is now a free agent.

Had the two parties failed to reach this agreement, Kodisang would have to wait for the January transfer window to be registered with a new club.
