Woman found dead with head and neck injuries at Tawau plantation, husband arrested

TAWAU, Sept 30 — A 37-year-old Indonesian woman was reportedly found dead with injuries at a plantation workers’ quarters in Felda Umas, Jalan Kalabakan, on Monday, with police arresting her husband in connection with the case.

According to Sinar Harian, Tawau police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the woman, who worked at the plantation, was found unconscious following an incident at about 4.55pm and was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8.16pm.

“Investigations at the scene found injuries to the victim’s head, neck and hands,” he was quoted as saying.

Police reportedly arrested the victim’s 38-year-old Indonesian husband, who had also suffered an injury to his neck and is receiving treatment at Tawau Hospital.

Rosdi said police seized several items, including a sickle and a piece of wood, while preliminary investigations suggested the incident may have stemmed from marital problems after the couple returned from a holiday, although the exact cause remains under investigation.

He said forensic examinations, DNA analysis, medical reports and a post-mortem were being conducted, while any initial admission by the suspect would still need to be corroborated by other evidence.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
